The Canadian side has now lost their first two season’s opening games.

Former Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama featured as CF Montreal suffered a 1-0 Major Soccer League (MLS) loss to Austin FC on Saturday.

Maxi Urruti found the back of the net in the 88th minute to ensure Austin emerged winners as Wanyama’s side suffered their second straight league defeat.

The scorer took a headed pass from John Gallagher for a simple tap in and gave Austin their first win of the season in their second game.

Meanwhile, Emiliano Rigoni could have easily opened the scoring for Austin in the first half, but Montreal defender Kamal Miller made a vital block to ensure the score line remained 0-0.

After receiving a pass from Gallagher, Rigoni failed to find the back of the net again, with Montreal’s goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois redirecting the ball wide.

As Montreal stabilised and started attacking, Miller's attempt from just outside the box slid past the left post and went out in the 27th minute.

The hosts thought they had claimed an opener two minutes past the half-hour mark, but Gyasi Zardes’ goal from the middle of the box was disallowed for offside.

A fine combination between Romell Quioto and Sean Rea almost gave Wanyama’s side a lead, but the latter’s effort was stopped by Austin’s goalkeeper Brad Stuver.

The Austin custodian was alert again later when he made a quick save on Mathieu Choiniere’s shot.

Urruti would have registered his first goal – after coming off the bench – in the 77th minute, but Sirois’ reaction denied him a chance to find the back of the net.

The Argentinian, however, managed to beat Sirois late in the second half to hand Austin their first win after an opening 2-1 loss to St Louis City.
