The former Black Stars midfielder had been missing since the Earthquakes that rocked Turkey
After weeks of extensive searching, Hatayspor’s Ghanaian midfielder Christian Atsu has been found dead after the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria.
Christian Atsu’s body found beneath rubble
Astu’s body was recovered under the rubble of his home and his demise was announced by his agent Nana Sechere on Twitter.
Atsu had been missing since the February 6th earthquakes and had at some point was rumoured to have been rescued, but has now ultimately been pronounced dead.
At the time of his passing Atsu was playing for Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig, and a day before the earthquakes had scored for his club in the league.
The club expressed its deep sympathy and commiserated with Atsu’s family and tweeted a message saying “We will not forget you, Atsu. Peace be upon you, beautiful person.
“There are no words to describe our sadness. Rest in peace.”
Christian Atsu survived by wife and kids
Christian Atsu is survived by a wife and two Children.
The former Chelsea and Newcastle player started his career at the Feyenoord Fetteh Academy before moving to Europe with Porto before representing a myriad of clubs.
He played for Vitesse, Bournemouth, Everton, Newcastle United, Malaga and Al Raed before moving to Turkey with Hatayspor.
He also represented the Black Stars of Ghana on 65 occasions, including at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and last played for them in 2019.
