The Blues are said to be keen on a LaLiga-based shot-stopper to solve the club’s crisis between the sticks.
Chelsea are rumoured to be keen on Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to fill No. 1 role under new boss Enzo Maresca.
The Danish shot-stopper made 36 appearances for the Yellow Submarine in 2023-24, keeping six clean sheets as the LaLiga side ended eighth in the top flight.
It was the 22-year-old's breakthrough season as a first-team player, but it has not stopped Chelsea from being interested in the Danish youth goalkeeper.
Why Chelsea want Jorgensen
According to The Athletic, the Blues want the young goalkeeper to be a long-term replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga, with neither Robert Sanchez nor Dorde Petrovic cementing their place as Chelsea’s No. 1.
Kepa was signed from Athletic Club in 2018 to replace Thibaut Courtois but lost the club’s confidence in the next season under Frank Lampard, leading the West London side to acquire Edouard Mendy.
The sale of the Senegal international and Kepa’s desire to move away from Stamford Bridge meant the West Londoners brought in Sanchez and Petrovic last summer, but neither shot-stopper convinced in the 2023-24 season.
What comes next?
Chelsea have departed for their tour of the United States, with the club announcing their 28-player group on Monday night.
Maresca’s men face Wrexham in their first preseason friendly on July 25 as they kickstart preparations for their Premier League opener against Manchester City on August 18.
