A move to Chelsea appears to be Osimhen's priority, but the Blues' financial situation could be the biggest stumbling block.
David Ornstein, a renowned transfer expert, has poured cold water on the speculation linking Victor Osimhen with a move to Chelsea. Ornstein highlighted the financial constraints faced by Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, which make a blockbuster move for Osimhen highly unlikely.
Osimhen's Sensational Performances tempting suitors
Chelsea's interest in Osimhen was further fueled after the Nigerian striker delivered a scintillating hat-trick performance for Napoli against Sassuolo. The Blues had scouts present to witness Osimhen's incredible display, where he showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting three goals in a dominant 6-1 victory.
Chelsea has been actively pursuing Osimhen since the beginning of the year, eyeing him as a potential key addition to their squad. However, competition for the 25-year-old's signature is fierce, with clubs like Arsenal and PSG also expressing interest in acquiring his services. Despite the intense competition, Chelsea remains determined to secure Osimhen's transfer, considering him a crucial asset in their bid to reclaim the Premier League title.
Chelsea Face Stumbling Block in Osimhen Pursuit
Despite the interest, it appears that Chelsea will be unable to make a move for the Nigerian striker. Speaking on a possible deal for Osimhen to join Chelsea, David Ornstein said in a chat on X, “January showed that the period of Premier League clubs paying massive transfer fees and salaries may well be slowing down (largely because of PSR). Chelsea, like many clubs, are tight on PSR and therefore will need to cut their cloth accordingly.
"Today's financial results showed that but everything I hear suggests they fully expect to remain compliant and will do what it takes to ensure that. It means that when we hear talk of someone like Osimhen being signed this summer, I think that is very unlikely - owing to the transfer fee and salary.”
Unparalleled Performance
Osimhen's exceptional performance in the Serie A, coupled with his impressive displays at the AFCON 2023 tournament, has only enhanced his reputation as one of the most sought-after strikers in European football.
With his recent goal-scoring exploits and undeniable talent, Osimhen appears poised for a potential move to the Premier League, offering Chelsea a formidable attacking threat if they can overcome financial obstacles.
