While the Super Eagles quasi-captain failed to make the cut, Lookman headlines the final five nominees for the ceremony.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced the nominees for its prestigious annual awards, with some of the continent's biggest names vying for top honours.

The awards ceremony, set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco on December 16, will celebrate outstanding achievements in African football throughout 2024.

Having revealed the top 10 nominees in late October, the federation have trimmed that initial shortlist by five, with Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong not included in the final list.

However, Ademola Lookman headlines the five-player list, owing to strong performances for the Super Eagles and Atalanta in the period under review — January to October 2024.

Lookman netted three times and assisted one during Nigeria's run to the AFCON final against tournament hosts Cote d'Ivoire and flourished as Atalanta reached the Europa League final before scoring a stunning hat-trick in the competition's decider at Bayer Leverkusen's expense.

Although Troost-Ekong has been cut, vying for the award with Lookman are Achraf Hakimi, Serhou Guirassy, Simon Adingra and South Africa's goalkeeping star Ronwen Williams

CAF also announced nominees for six other categories: Goalkeeper of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Club of the Year and National Team of the Year.

These awards recognise outstanding performances in club and national team competitions between January and October 2024.

The winners will be determined by a voting process involving the CAF Technical & Development Committee, media representatives, head coaches and captains of Member Associations and clubs involved in the group stage of the Inter-club competitions.
