Troost-Ekong finally got on the scoresheet for Salernitana and it was a special goal
Nigerian centre-back William Troost-Ekong scored his first goal for Salernitana to seal a dramatic late win over Udinese in Serie A.
Troost-Ekong saves the day
Troost-Ekong hammered the ball into the back of the next with the last kick of the ball to send Salernitana fans into raptures after completing a sensational comeback against Udinese.
The home side had trailed by two goals inside the first half-hour when Ilija Nestorovski and Marvin Zeegeler scored to give Udinese a healthy lead.
Salernitana fought back with goals from Grigoris Kastanos and Antonio Candreva dragging them back into the tie before Troost-Ekong’s 96th-minute winner.
Troost-Ekong makes case for more playing time
The Super Eagles defender’s goal helped Salernitana end their season on a high at home with a win their final game in front of their fans.
Since joining Salernitana from Watford on loan, Troost-Ekong has been a bit-part player for the relegation survivors, but against Udinese, the defender became a fan favourite with his late winner to give the Garnets an emotionally charged win.
Troost-Ekong has played only eight matches for Salernitana since his winter loan move, starting only four of them, but with his goal against Udinese makes a strong case for more playing time at Salernitana or elsewhere ahead of the summer transfer widow.
The result has no impact on the fate of both teams for the season as Salernitana are already safe from the threat of relegation, while Udinese are midtable with no hope of finishing in a European places.
