Ingwe have been embroiled in internal problems and the players seem to have paid the price over a recent go-slow.
Trouble continues to brew at AFC Leopards after the club stripped Eugene Mukangula and Peter Thiong’o of their captaincy roles on Wednesday.
The two players, who are among the longest serving at Ingwe currently, seem to have paid the price for a recent go-slow within the playing unit which saw players boycott training ahead of last Sunday’s league clash away to Vihiga Bullets over ‘delayed payment’ of their salaries.

Ingwe have been embroiled in internal problems with the players allegedly not agreeing with the management on a number of issues and things seem to have reached a boiling point.
“AFC Leopards National Executive Committee has stripped off Eugene Mukangula and Peter Thiong'o from their captaincy roles in the team with immediate effect. More communication to follow,” the club said via a statement on social media.

The club's management has accused the players of ‘sabotage’ over the go-slow, claiming most of their salaries and allowances are up to date but the playing unit seems not to agree.
The result has been a run of poor performances that has seen Leopards win just two of their last 11 league matches and things reached a head last weekend when a section of fans had a go at the players for ‘deliberately not putting in an effort’ as Ingwe hit a new low by losing 2-1 to the already relegated Vihiga.
“You are giving us pressure, this must stop. You haven’t trained but you want to play. Just leave, if you don’t have the heart to play for AFC Leopards just leave. Take off the Leopards shirt and leave,” a frustrated fan shouted at the players.
“We are wasting our money to come watch you and you are striking. How much does the club owe you, we can even contribute for you,” he added.

The former Harambee Stars tactician has been out of work since leaving Wazito in 2022.
Leopards are on course for one of their lowest finishes in the league as they sit seventh on the log with 48 points. Ingwe have won just two of their last 11 games, the poor run including five defeats and four draws which has seen them slip down the table.
They will also extend their trophyless run to six years, having been knocked out of the FKF Cup semi-final by Kakamega Homeboyz last month.
