Trouble at the Den: Why AFC Leopards players have downed tools two days to crucial league match

AFC Leopards players have refused to turn up for training ahead of Saturday’s FKF Premier League clash against FC Talanta but what is the problem this time?

AFC Leopards’ recent impressive run is under threat following mutiny within the squad over delayed salaries.

Leopards players did not turn up for training on Thursday ahead of their match against FC Talanta this weekend due to a delay in the payment of their full December 2024 salaries.

The players are disappointed that the club has not fully paid their dues, with only a fraction of their salary settled so far, and they have voted with their feet, opting not to turn out for training until a full settlement is made.

“The team did not show up for training today [Thursday] even after the technical team came and planned the sessions. There is nothing they can do when the players are not there,” a source close to the team told Pulse Sports.

“The club is going through a rough patch financially and it could be due to their recent outlay on the new kits. Because of this, I doubt if they will even be spending on new players in the midseason transfer window,” added the source.

The go-slow has come at a bad time for Leopards as they were on a revival of some sort, having gone five matches without defeat, with three wins and two draws recorded over that period.

Those wins have come against Kenya Police, Tusker FC and Bandari, teams tipped among title challengers, and belief was beginning to grow within the camp that their early season blues were over.

Coach Fred Ambani and his technical team will now be hoping that the Leopards management sorts out the issue quickly before its impact begins to be felt on the pitch, starting this weekend.

Leopards are scheduled to host FC Talanta on Saturday January 18 at the Dandora Stadium.
