Gor Mahia chairman has been summoned to court over unpaid compensation to ex-coach following wrongful termination ruling.

Trouble is brewing for Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier as he has been summoned to appear before the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi on July 18.

Rachier is required to show cause why he should not be jailed for failing to pay the club's former coach Frank Nuttall compensation for wrongful termination as per court rulings.

According to Mozzart Sport, Nuttall claimed that in November 2015, the club attempted to alter his contract by proposing a 50% pay cut instead of the 10% annual increment stipulated in his contract.

"Take notice that the attached Notice to Show Cause has been listed for hearing on 18th July, 2024 at 9.00 am at the Employment and Labour Relations Court, Nairobi," the summons read.

"Take further notice that if no appearance is made by you or someone authorized by law to do so on your behalf, the matter will be heard and decided in your absence. Dated at Miskin this 6th day of June 2024," it added.

Nuttall also alleged that the chairman incited players to sabotage his work undermining his control over the team.

He described intolerable working conditions, including inadequate transport arrangements that sometimes forced him to use motorbikes.

"Nuttall took legal action, seeking compensation for various allowances and damages totaling Ksh21,688,489," the outlet reported.

"This included unpaid housing allowance (Ksh. 1,440,000), car allowance (Ksh. 3,360,000), air tickets for himself and his family (Ksh. 810,000 + Ksh. 3,195,489), various bonuses, medical cover (Ksh. 1,049,000), salary in lieu (Ksh. 770,000), compensation for the remainder of his contract (Ksh. 10,000,000), a laptop (Ksh. 100,000), and damages (Ksh. 1,000,000)," it further indicated.

Last year, on March 20, 2023, Judge B.O.M. Manani issued a judgment awarding Nuttall Ksh. 2,800,000 for unfair termination of his contract which equated to four months' gross salary.

This judgment was subsequently confirmed on March 20 this year.

Despite this three months have passed without the club complying with the court's order leading to the latest summons.

Nuttall led Gor Mahia to win the 2015 Kenyan Premier League title unbeaten, during a period when the club won the title three years in a row, two of which were under his guidance.
