Bayern Munich’s new boss Thomas Tuchel has called on the club to be brave ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first-leg fixture against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Bayern Munich face Manchester City in Tuchel’s first European match with new club
Tuchel’s side take on the reigning English Champions and last season’s UCL semifinalists, but the Bayern coach does not want his players to get swallowed up by the occasion, instead, calling for them to show more courage in the face of one of the favourittes for the competition.
Bayern Munich are the only side with a 100% record in the UCL this season after winning all of their eight games so far, but those matches were under former manager Julian Nagelsmann, who was asked to step down in March.
Tuchel asks for belief from his players ahead of Manchester City clash
This will be Tuchel’s first European game in charge of Bayern Munich, and it comes versus the team against which he won his lone UCL trophy while with former club Chelsea.
Ahead of the game, he said, “We have to be brave. We have to believe in ourselves, be smart, have tactical solutions and go to the limit of our physical efforts.”
The German manager’s first cup experience in Bavaria ended in defeat as Bayern were knocked out of the DFB Pokal by Freiburg, but he has asked players to put that behind them so they can tackle the Manchester City menace with confidence.
Manchester City reached the quarter-finals after a convincing win over another German opponent RB Leipzig whom they humiliated by seven goals to nil in the second leg, with Norwegian forward Erling Haaland scoring five times in a single UCL game.
