In a closely contested FKF Premier League match, Tusker FC waited till the final minutes to grab all three points against Police.

An in-form Tusker FC side edged out Kenya Police FC 1-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash staged at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Wednesday afternoon.

The result saw the Brewers and the Law Enforcers, who went into the match under the guidance of goalkeeper coach Abdul Salim, move to sixth spot, while Police remained in ninth spot on the league standings.

Police started the match brightly with Francis Kahata delivering a great cross for Tito Okello, whose header was saved by goalkeeper Brian Bwire.

The visitors continued to control the match towards the half-hour mark with Okello seeing a lot of the ball in the hosts' half and he was afforded time and space on the edge of the hosts' box.

The South Sudan international pulled the trigger with his weaker right foot and his thunderous deflected shot beat Bwire hands down, but the shot went inches over the crossbar.

Tusker’s Collins Otieno then delivered a well-taken corner kick which found  Eric Kapaito, whose goal-bound strike was cleared away by Patrick Matasi just before half-time; and the score was 0-0 at the interval at Machakos.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with Tusker having to wait until the 50th minute to have their second shot on goal, with Mike Kibwage’s effort from a free kick looking destined for the top corner, only for Patrick Matasi to make a fine save.

In the 58th minute, Kenya Police opened up Tusker's defence and presented a chance for Kahata, but he saw his low shot turned away for a corner kick by Bwire.

Shortly thereafter, Bwire needed Boniface Onyango to make a clearance off his goal line as the South C-based side threatened from a corner kick.

The Brewers threw on the likes of Daniel Sakari, David Odoyo, and Stewart Omondi to try and gain some cutting edge in the final third, but the Law Enforcers’ resilient defence stood firm and held out for a stalemate.

Pressure mounted on Police in the closing stages of the match and Matasi pulled off a brilliant save to deny Stewart Omondi with ten minutes left.

The former Tusker shot-stopper then made another fantastic finger-tipping save from Boniface Onyango's free-kick in the closing stages of the match.

But there was more to come from Tusker as second-half substitute Fabian Adikiny scored in injury time securing the win for Robert Matano's coached side.
