Opondo made his debut for Tusker almost a year and a half after joining the club during their 4-0 win over Shabana and has kept his place since.

Brian Opondo has had a memorable last four weeks in a Tusker shirt with almost a year and a half having passed before he was finally handed his debut during their 4-0 win over Shabana after he signed for the 12-time league champions from Bidco United.

Almost a year and a half had passed before he was finally handed his debut during their 4-0 win over Shabana after he signed for the 12-time league champions from Bidco United.

Opondo kept a clean sheet on debut and went on to do so in the subsequent game against KCB. He also looked solid during their win over Muhoroni Youth.

Naturally, it is a milestone he will not forget easily, considering how long he had to wait to finally achieve it.

“I always knew my chance would come one day and I just kept working hard,” Opondo told the club’s newsletter.

"I want to thank the coaches for believing in me and I want to repay them by working hard and contributing to the team’s performances,” Opondo noted

He also credited the strong competition in the goalkeeping department, with Brian Bwire, with nine clean sheets before he was handed his debut, and youthful keeper Edwin Simiyu also working to raise his game.

“There is very intense competition and it is good for all the three of us because we will always be on top.

“It is also good for the team because anyone who is given a chance will always be ready. When Bwire plays, the rest of us supports him and we know he will do the job and vice versa,” said Opondo.

Tusker are set to face AFC Leopards on Sunday and Opondo will be hoping he can keep impressing to cement his status as the first choice goalkeeper.
