Tusker midfielder Joseph Mwangi has revealed his delight at finally scoring his first goal of the season after 10 failed attempts.

Tusker FC midfielder Joseph Mwangi is relieved to have scored his first goal of the season during their 3-1 victory over Nairobi City Stars on Saturday.

Mwangi netted the third goal after Mike Oduor and David Odoyo’s second and 19th-minute strikes as the Brewers raced to a 3-0 lead inside 43 minutes.

The attacking midfielder headed home Oduor’s left-footed free-kick as Tusker eased some pressure after back-to-back defeats and Mwangi feels victory will silence some of his critics somewhat.

“I feel great because it is something I have been fighting for in the last 10 games. It has been haunting me a lot, if you look at the form I have been in, and people were still asking what is going on,” said Mwangi.

“However, I was giving myself hope because I know it is football and I must search for goals. We had lost two straight games but now we are winning which is a morale booster and something we must maintain.”

Mwangi joined Tusker in the off-season from Nzoia Sugar where he scored 14 goals and provided seven assists and there were hopes that he would hit the ground running for the Ruaraka-based side but he has taken time to adapt.

Victory left Tusker in 10th position on 14 points, eight behind leaders Posta Rangers, but it is not where last season’s runners-up want to be.

Robert Matano’s charges have had a poor start to the season, suffering five defeats in 11 games, while they have won four and drawn two, adding pressure on the tactician.

That has pegged them back and even with leaders Posta Rangers and second-placed Gor Mahia drawing three of their last five games, the Brewers have failed to capitalise.

Tusker will hope to pick up some momentum after the two-week international break when they visit Bidco United on November 25.
