Alex Iwobi fell awkwardly after a tackle from Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia and he was taken off on a stretcher.
Iwobi was having an excellent game for the Toffees before he got injured, creating several opportunities that his teammates could not make the most of.
Malacia's tackle on Iwobi
Manchester United defender Malacia hit Iwobi with a very hard tackle, forcing him of the field in tears. The tackle was aggressive and left a bad taste in the mouths of Everton fans and football lovers.
Malacia then went ahead to post photos of the victory on Instagram, including the one causing the damage to Iwobi, which was distasteful.
While it is common practice to see winners praising their teammates and posting videos and photos of their success, this was a step too far.
To use an image like the one Malacia posted on his Instagram profile while his opponent was in danger of missing the rest of the season shows that he remained unapologetic and is an act that deserves the criticism it is currently receiving.
Iwobi's injury update
It has since been reported that Iwobi could return to action within the next month but further statements will be expected from Everton to give a specific timeline.
He took to social media to send a message to Everton fans following the injury. In his post, the midfielder wrote: “Appreciate the love, back soon.”
Big picture for Everton
Iwobi has been the best Everton player this season, by a long mile. His limitless energy and ball progression will be sorely missed during his absence as the club looks to desperately find some form.
After losing 4-1 to Brighton in their last league game, Lampard must know he has very little time left to turn things around and he will need Iwobi back as soon as possible.
