Vinicius Junior quickly pulled a goal back for Real Madrid, but Gabriel Martinelli then scored in stoppage time to seal the win for Arsenal.

Arsenal kept their composure in Madrid despite penalty drama at both ends, as Saka missed his and Los Blancos’ was overturned by VAR.

Despite both incidents and Madrid pulling one back, Arsenal's defence remained strong throughout the game.

David Raya was seldom called upon in Madrid, and it took a defensive error for Real Madrid to score; however, Martinelli's late goal confirmed Arsenal's place in the next round.

Wednesday's 2-1 success followed the Gunners' 1-0 triumph in February 2006, which was inspired by Thierry Henry

That match was the round of 16 first leg, and a goalless encounter at Highbury saw the North London side advance to the quarter-finals en route to the final.

Their latest success confirmed what many expected: a semi-final berth against Ligue 1 giants PSG.

What’s next for Arsenal?

Before Champions League exertions against Luis Enrique’s PSG, Arsenal will play Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace in the Premier League on April 20 and 23, respectively.
