The Arsenal legend lauded the Borussia Dortmund winger, whose Champions League semi-final display harked back to his finest performances before departing North Rhine-Westphalia.

Arsenal’s record goalscorer Thierry Henry has praised Jadon Sancho’s excellent showing in Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final first-leg 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain

The wide attacker played commendably on the night, completing 12 dribbles, outdoing players on both teams for duels won and creating a joint-high three chances.

Wednesday night’s game at Signal Iduna Park was decided by Niclas Fullkrug’s 36th-minute goal, giving BVB a chance to make their first Champions League final since 2012.

UCL: What did Henry say about Sancho’s performance against PSG?

Speaking on CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage of the semi-final, the Frenchman commended the forward’s mental strength.

“We all know that he struggled mentally at Man United,” said Henry after the game. “The power of the brain and how you can be as a professional, when you’re not well you cannot perform.

“And you can see that things are a bit better whatever the struggle was with him. I think at United he played 48 games and dribbled past a player seven times. He did that seven times in the first 10 minutes.

“All I can say is, do not underestimate that, mental health is not an easy thing to deal with. And you can see when someone is well, you can perform.”

What comes next for Sancho?

While his future remains undecided, Sancho is expected to return to Manchester United this summer after completing his temporary spell at Dortmund.

The on-loan attacker could play a pivotal part in BVB’s European run, with the club keen to make the Champions League final for the first time in 11 years.
