UCU and MUBS shared spoils in a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg played in Nakawa on Thursday.

It will be all to play for when Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Makerere University Business School (MUBS) meet in the second leg of the Pepsi University Football League semifinals in Mukono next week.

UCU and MUBS shared spoils in a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg played in Nakawa on Thursday.

The on-form Geoffrey Gagganga netted UCU’s equaliser in the 65th minute, and he is optimistic that this will count as they aim for a place in this year’s final.

“I am grateful for the goal but most importantly for the effort shown by the team,” Gagganga said in the aftermath of the match before adding.

“We had a slow start but later grew into the game, and managed to score an important goal.”

“We could have scored many more on the day, but we missed a couple of chances, settling for a draw, and we shall build on the away goal to try and win the second leg to reach the final,” the captain added.

MUBS had taken an early advantage, scoring in the second minute of the game thanks to Sudhir Bin Saudi’s goal.

The two-time UFL champions’ skipper Derrick Otuke has urged his teammates to double their efforts ahead of the second leg in Mukono.

“We had a good start but made a few mistakes later on in the game, and that is how we were punished,” Otuke remarked.

“There is only one thing we have to do when we are going to Mukono to double our efforts and score a goal or two and we are good to go.”

Whereas MUBS are looking for a record third UFL title, on the other hand, UCU are looking for their second trophy.

Meanwhile, Nkumba University will play against Kampala University in the other semifinal. KU took St. Lawrence University’s slot who fielded ineligible players in the quarterfinals against the two-time winners.
