Regional arch-rivals Tanzania and Uganda are gearing up for a crunch doubleheader in the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Cranes will play host to the Taifa Stars in the first encounter in Egypt before their reverse tie four days later in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Ties between the two East African nations have, unsurprisingly, come with thrills and emotions therein, and the closeness of the results has almost always been reflected.
Tanzania emerged victorious in the most recent meeting between the two, edging head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevich's charges 1-0 in an international friendly played on September 24th, 2022.
Al Qadisiya forward Simon Msuva netted in the first half to earn the Tanzanians their first victory in this fixture in five matches.
However, their last competitive encounter had seen the Cranes walk home with a comfortable 3-0 win in the final qualifier of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende, on September 03rd, 2022.
Moses Waiswa, Richard Basangwa and Rogers Mato guided the Pearl of Africa to the CHAN finals courtesy of a 4-0 aggregate.
That was after Micho's troops had picked a narrow 1-0 win at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in the first leg, thanks to a wonder Travis Mutyaba goal.
Dating back to a year before the CHAN qualifiers, Uganda had beaten their nemesis 2-0 in another friendly, with Ivan Asaba and Bright Joseph Vuni coming up big.
Four years back, in a CECAFA Championship match, the Cranes again came up on top, with forward Fahad Bayo netting the day's only strike in a 1-0 victory.
The last time the Taifa Stars won a competitive match against the Cranes was a 3-0 victory in Dar es Salaam in 2019, with goals from Msuva, Erasto Nyoni and Aggrey Morris, in the qualifiers of CHAN.
A year before that, though, the two regional neighbours had tied in a barren stalemate in another CHAN qualifier in Uganda.
The barren draw came after a three-year wait before the two tussled it out, and on that occasion in 2015, the pair shared spoils as it ended 1-1 in another CHAN qualification game.
That same year, Uganda had comfortably won 3-0 in the first leg, thanks to an Erisa Ssekisambu brace and another from Farouk Miya.
In 2013 however, Uganda and Tanzania played out a two-all draw before the latter won 3-2 after post-match penalties in the quarterfinals of the CECAFA.
It awaits to be seen who will take the two ties after 180 minutes, but all indicators point to double thrillers in Egypt and Tanzania.
