Ugandan striker Patrick Kaddu will be part of the Gor Mahia team for the 2023/24 season after the Kenyan champions registered their provisional squad for the new season.

The 28-man squad conspicuously features only two foreign players; Kaddu and Rwandan defender Emery Bayisenge after the club recently changed its policy on recruiting non-Kenyan nationals.

Gor Mahia were kicked out CAF Champions League last season after three former players, Burundian striker Jules Ulimwengu, Congolese attacker Yangayay Sando Sando and Malian goalkeeper Adama Keita reported the club to FIFA for failure to pay their salaries.

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier then announced that they would not be signing foreign players.

"It looks like many of the foreign-based players we have been signing only come here to cause us problems and take money without giving us value," Rachier told Nairobi-based Radio 47 on August 5.

"We have had a discussion as the top leadership of the club, and for now, we are not going to sign any foreign player," he added.

Kaddu lifted the Kenyan league trophy with Gor Mahia six months after joining the club from FUFA Big League side Kitara FC last year.

Gor Mahia who defeated Kakamega Homeboyz in the 2023/24 season curtain raiser in the FKF Charity Shield will kickstart their FKF Premier League (FKFPL) title defence on August 26, 2023, against Sofapaka FC.
