Byekwaso recently took up the assistant coaching role at S.C Villa and had everything going well with his former employers at Lugogo.

Much has been discussed regarding how and why Morley Byekwaso resigned as KCCA FC head coach in April following a 1-0 loss to Soltilo Bright Stars in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter-final at Kavumba.

Byekwaso recently took up the assistant coaching role at S.C Villa and had everything going well with his former employers at Lugogo.

Still, a string of poor results towards the end of the season, including the domestic cup exit, which to Morely was the catalyst for his departure, summed up his reign.

“I felt we could win the double at KCCA FC last season,” Byekwaso told Pulse Sports before adding.

“But the players’ commitment was lacking overall, so after the Uganda Cup exit against Soltilo Bright Stars, it was tough to take in.”

Byekwaso added: “We all have targets, and mine was, at worst, to win the Uganda Cup, and it was achievable, but it wasn’t to be; it was a painful experience, that’s for sure.”

The 46-year-old credits the KCCA FC board, who he says supported him even in the hard times.

“The board supported me, that’s for sure, but I badly wanted to win the Stanbic Uganda Cup, and when I fell short, that was it for me,” he noted.

In April 2021, Byekwaso was named interim coach at the Lugogo-based club when Mike Mutebi left his role; he was later in August rewarded with a three-year contract but only served 16 months.

The former Uganda Cranes forward will now try and help the new Serbian head coach Dusan Stojanovic return to the glory days at S.C Villa. He is also tasked with managing the junior team.

KCCA FC recently appointed Portuguese tactician Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil on a two-year deal; he is expected to begin work on 1st July 2023.
