Sheryl Botes' reign as the head coach of the Crested Cranes started with a 1–1 stalemate against Morocco in the latter country in a friendly game played on Friday night.

The Crested Cranes drew first blood thanks to captain Fauzia Najjemba's goal from a penalty kick in the eighth minutes at Pere Jego Stadium in Casablanca.

Daisy Nakaziro managed to keep out Morocco's captain Ghizlane Chebbak from 12 yards at the half hour mark.

Botes' managed team could hold on until the 64th minute when they conceded the equalizer through Elodie Nakkach.

Najjemba, Phiona Nabbumba, Joan Nabirye, and Viola Nambi were the only four foreign-based players who started the game, with the rest of the trusted players coming from the FUFA Women's Super League.

A draw is an improvement from when the two teams last met in the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, where Morocco defeated Uganda 3-1 in the group stages.
