The FKF Women's Premier League action resumes on Saturday afternoon with two matches lined-up.

Ulinzi Starlets face an uphill task against a resurgent Thika Queens in a Football Kenya Federation Women's Premier League match on Saturday, Week-16 match at Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Starlets kept themselves right in the title hunt when they defeated Nakuru City Queens 2-1 away from home on April 9, with goals from Margaret Odiro and Neddy Atieno.

The soldiers, who have claimed 19 points from 15 matches this season, will need a bad result from rivals Vihiga Queens to move to the second spot on the table.

Starlets coach Joseph Mwanzia is optimistic that his charges will emerge victorious against the defending champions, who are currently placed fifth on the log.

"The title race is very tight and we all want to remain top. The match is very unpredictable because we will both be fighting for third place on the table," said Mwanzia in an interview with Nation.

Thika Queens picked up a third draw of the season when they were held to a one-all stalemate by Nakuru City Queens away in their last league outing on April 9.

Dependable sharpshooter Chris Katch scored the all-important goal for Fredick Majani's charges. Queens have claimed 27 points from 15 matches in the 2022/23 campaign.

Thika Queens will go into the match without the services of their dependable striker Wendy Atieno who is still nursing an injury sustained in their 1-0 loss to Zetech Sparks on March 5.

The attacker is the joint WPL top scorer with 13 goals, the same as Monica Etot of Kisumu Allstarlets.

Elsewhere, Zetech Sparks and Kangemi Ladies face off in the second game of the day, where fans should also expect some fireworks.

Sparks have been on a yo-yo run this season, where they have won four games and lost seven.

Bernard Kitolo's charges are still licking their wounds after a 3-0 thrashing by Gaspo Women in their last outing away in Karen.

They are placed 10th on the log on 13 points from as many games, and this will be a perfect opportunity to secure maximum points in front of their fans.

Kangeni Ladies suffered their 14th loss of the season when they fell 2-0 to fellow strugglers Kayole Starlets at Camp Toyoyo on April 9.

The Purple and Blue are second from bottom with a negative three points after they have deducted points after issuing one walkover this season.

When the teams met earlier this season at GEMS Cambridge School, Zetech emerged victorious after a massive 6-1 win.
