A key Reds player has called on his teammates to respond to Saturday’s shock defeat by Nottingham Forest against AC Milan.
Virgil van Dijk is excited about Liverpool's return to the Champions League, believing it provides the perfect opportunity to bounce back from their recent Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest.
What Van Dijk said
The Dutch defender is eager to lead the team out at San Siro for their match against AC Milan on Tuesday night after missing out on the competition last season.
Van Dijk expressed his enthusiasm for playing in the Champions League, emphasising the importance of the competition for the Reds and called on the team to put in a strong performance and avoid repeating the mistakes made against Forest.
“I am definitely looking forward to Tuesday. We are much better than we showed against Forest,” said the experienced centre-back. “We have a very good group that really understood that Saturday was unacceptable and are disappointed.
“We all know everyone can do better and we have to show that on Tuesday. That is what we focus on. We have been through losses and difficult moments together. We will stay calm.”
