Nigeria's Victor Osimhen provided the ammunition as Galatasaray kicked off their Europa League campaign with a hard-fought victory.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen played a crucial role in Galatasaray's 3-1 victory over PAOK in their Europa League opener on Wednesday night, despite not finding the back of the net himself.

The match, held at Rams Park, saw Galatasaray secure a hard-fought win to kick off their European campaign on a positive note.

Osimhen, who joined the Turkish giants from Napoli in a high-profile move, continued to make his presence felt on the pitch for the Lions.

The opening goal came from an Osimhen header off a Dries Mertens corner kick. The ball deflected off a PAOK defender Abdul Rahman Baba before crossing the line, officially recorded as an own goal despite Osimhen's initial claims.

PAOK managed to equalise, setting the stage for a tense second half. However, Galatasaray's persistence paid off when Osimhen's headed pass found teammate Yunus, who fired home a powerful shot to secure the 2-1 victory.

This performance marks Osimhen's third assist in as many matches for Galatasaray, highlighting his growing influence on the team's attacking play.

While the Nigerian international who provided a stunning assist at the weekend is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his new club, his ability to create opportunities for his teammates has not gone unnoticed.

Victor's contribution goes beyond just scoring goals, his work rate and ability to create chances for others have been invaluable to the team. He was replaced with 12 minutes left to play by Mauro Icardi, who sealed the deal with the third goal.

The victory puts Galatasaray in a strong position in their Europa League group. Their next European fixture is scheduled for October 3rd when they will travel to face RFS.
