Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi maintained their flawless start to their title defence, clinching a 2-1 victory over the University of Kisubi on the road in Group A action.

A first-half brace courtesy of Ssentongo Akbar was sufficient to secure the win for the defending champions, propelling them to the top of the group standings after two games.

Following the match, Uganda Martyrs' head coach, Eric Kisuuze, acknowledged that despite the victory, there are areas in which his team can further excel.

"The performance wasn't subpar; our strategy revolved around ball retention and creating scoring opportunities, which we executed, "Kisuuze shared with the media.

"However, our challenge lay in converting those opportunities, which we will work on in our future endeavours."

Kisuuze added: "Certain players faced fatigue due to their involvement in other competitions, which is a factor we cannot overlook."

Furthermore, Kisuuze emphasized the need for improvement in defensive aspects, given their recent record of conceding goals in consecutive matches.

He also praised his standout player, Ssentongo Akbar, who netted the crucial goals, taking his season tally to three goals in just two games.

"Ssentongo Akbar proved to be the difference-maker today and is an exceptional talent. His performances will undoubtedly elevate our team and contribute to our continual improvement," Kisuuze added.

Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi aims to retain their title, a feat that has not been accomplished since Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in 2014 and 2015.
