This put the futures of several big-name players, including Fernandes and Rashford, in doubt.
Manchester United to keep big players
Rashford, who recently signed a new five-year contract, had a subpar season, scoring only eight goals in 43 matches across competitions, which cost him a place in England’s Euro 2024 team.
His off-field controversies and a reported strained relationship with manager Erik Ten Hag further fueled possible exit rumours at Old Trafford.
For skipper of the Red Devils, Fernandes, despite another impressive individual season, was also surprisingly linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Saudi Pro League clubs.
The Portuguese midfielder was reportedly seeking a pay rise to match the club's highest earners.
However, with the Premier League season set to begin in a matter of weeks, Ten Hag who has extended his stay at the club, is reluctant to lose key creative assets.
The duo had been a consideration for potential sales to relieve strain on the wage bill, but the limited time to find suitable replacements has factored into the decision to retain them.
But per a Givemesport report, neither Rashford nor Fernandes have pushed for moves away from Old Trafford despite initial reports suggesting otherwise for the former.
The club was only willing to consider their departures if the players themselves were keen on leaving.
This decision to keep both players will likely be welcomed by United fans, as Fernandes and Rashford will be crucial to the team's efforts to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
