Allan Okello’s end-of-season message had goodbye tones written following the expiry of his loan move from Paradou, and it remains uncertain whether a deal will be struck to have him stay at the club.

KCCA FC are still settling in with the appointment of head coach Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil, who was acquired on a two-year deal.

The Portuguese tactician will fill the void left by Morley Byekwaso, who resigned from his role in the course of last season.

FOOTBALL KCCA FC announce new manager

Sergio is a Portuguese tactician who started his coaching career at Sports Lisboa e Benfica, where he was in charge of the club’s youth teams before joining Kaduna United in Nigeria.

But as the club ushers in a new manager, the playing department itself has a lot of work to be done to facilitate a smooth landing for Sergio.

Transfer seasons have always been busy at KCCA with departures and arrivals, and things might not be too different this time, with up to eight senior players out of contract at the end of June.

Club captain and custodian Benjamin Ochan, defender Geoffrey Wasswa, John Revita, Brian Majwega and Mustafa Kizza are all reportedly out of contract this month.

Revita barely played last season due to a nagging knee injury and is one of those expected to leave the club, just like Majwega.

Allan Okello’s end-of-season message had goodbye tones written following the expiry of his loan move from Paradou, and it remains uncertain whether a deal will be struck to have him stay at the club longer.

Okello returned to the club at the same time as left wing-back Mustafa Kizza. The defender’s short-term deal will also come to an end later this month, and the club would have to entice him to stay.

The club is said to be currently in negotiations with Ochan and Wasswa over new contracts.

KCCA recently confirmed participation in the CAF Confederation Cup and will need the services of their senior players at that level.

Both Okello and Kizza were part of the KCCA side that made noise on the continent under the tutelage of Mike Mutebi and would add a lot to the team.

Wasswa also seemed to have formed a formidable partnership with Mustafa Mujuzi at the heart of the KCCA defence while the leadership of Ochan would not be easy to replace.

Goalkeeper Ali Mwirusi and striker Brian Aheebwa are the other KCCA players out of contract.

At the end of last season, KCCA were level on points with Vipers but lost the Startimes Uganda Premier League title on goal difference.

Elimination from the Stanbic Uganda Cup in the quarter-finals by Soltilo Bright Stars meant the club would go yet another year without silverware.

The 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup is the last trophy KCCA won, and tying down some of their key players might be the only way back to winning ways.
