The Arabian football announcer took a cheeky dig at the French centre-back following his disastrous performance against Manchester City
A commentator left fans in stiches when he made a hilarious comparison between Bayer Munich defender Dayot Upamecano and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.
The French centre-back put in a disastrous performance against Manchester City as the Bundesliga champions lost 4-1 on aggregate to the Premier League giants to exit the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.
Upamecano was at fault for two of City’s goals as they romped to a 3-0 win last week and was equally as bad on Wednesday, escaping a red card for bringing down City striker Erling Haaland while through on goal, before giving away a penalty after a handball in the box although the Norwegian missed the spot kick.
The 24-year-old saved the worst for last as he slipped in an attempt to tackle Haaland, allowing the striker an opportunity to get one-on-one with goalkeeper Yan Sommer, before he scored City’s goal at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
His comedy of errors saw the commentator compare him to United’s error-prone skipper Maguire with a quip that left fans in stitches. As Upamecano played the ball with just five minutes left, the Arabian commentator said: “Upamaguire.”
Supporters found the incident absolutely hilarious, with many hailing the commentator’s cheeky name.
Upamecano is in his second season at Bayern having joined from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £37 million. He has since played 77 times and won last season’s Bundesliga.
Maguire, meanwhile, joined Manchester United for a world record £80 million in August 2019 and after an impressive first season, errors have become common in his game with his slow pace, poor timing and positioning, making him a subject of criticism.
The England international was at fault again last week when he scored an own goal as United threw away a 2-0 advantage to draw 2-2 with Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final first leg at Old Trafford.
