FOOTBALL UPL Awards - Out to celebrate greatness

Godwin Buule • 16:35 - 05.07.2023

After a long season of hard work and toiling, it's always good to see a football player's work valued, approved and shown gratitude.

It's that time of the year again when the most outstanding footballing talents in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League get rewarded for their excellence.

And, following the end of the 2022/2023 campaign, the Pilsner End of the Season awards are slated for July 6 at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel.

It's that time when clubs fight for the bragging rights on who is the best among the lot.

After a long season of hard work and toiling, it's always good to see a football player's work valued, approved and shown gratitude.

This helps inspire footballers to work hard to achieve what they set out to achieve.

It boosts and motivates players' morale to give their best, drawing fans' adoration everywhere.

It is not always a fairytale as some outstanding players in the season get to miss out, as life has a curious way of being unfair!

But all in all, one can never regret when he does his best to be the best.

In the modern era, the Uganda Premier League have managed to organise season-ending awarding events that have proved successful.

And this has seen the Uganda premier league on an upward curve, and more will be achieved with consistency.

It's a big step towards achieving footballing excellency. Thus every player and coach in the league ought to work hard to win the attached coveted prizes.

As a former player at Vipers SC (Bunamwaya SC), I got national team call-ups on the senior team and youth levels after good displays in the league.

And when I was named best goalkeeper of the tournament after helping the Uganda Hippos win the under-20 tournament in Eritrea, it motivated me to want to achieve more.

The same applies to current footballers, who have secured professional footballing contracts in Africa and beyond after taking the league by storm and having marvelous seasons.

Players like Bobosi Byaruhanga (MVP 2021) and Mohammed Shaban (MVP 2016) are living examples.

It's a call for current footballers and athletes to set goals and work towards achieving them, commit to improving, and, thus, inspire others.

A round of applause to all Uganda football stakeholders, including the journalists, UPL secretariat, FUFA, fans, sponsors, and players, for doing the most to lift Ugandan football.

Like the players and coaches, I look forward to this year's end-of-season awards event.
