In a game of very minimal chances, the biggest highlight was the bumpy and crusty grounds that limited any cohesion from either team especially in the final third.

Newly promoted Uganda Premier League side held champions Vipers SC to dull barren stalemate on Tuesday at the Kakyeka Stadium.

In a game of very minimal chances, the biggest highlight was the bumpy and crusty grounds that limited any cohesion from either team especially in the final third.

Both teams were limited to kicking rather than playing, with strikers of both teams getting isolated for the larger parts of the game.

Mbarara City made the initial threat that in fact never was, in the ninth minute, but Joseph Akandanwaho's freekick was saved by goalkeeper Jack Komakech.

In the 22nd minute, Vipers then showed intent from Bright Anukani's corner but Patrick Mbowa failed to make the right connection.

Anukani was then forced off through injury in the 31st minute to sum up a dull and frustrating half for Vipers.

The guests started the second half relatively bright but were only limited to just half chances as both Milton Karisa and Richard Matovu threatened in the 49th and 53rd minute.

However, it's the hosts that had the better opportunity to break the deadlock in the 70th minute, but Akandanwaho's effort was met with a timely interception from defender Livingstone Mulondo.

With no real intent from either team in the final stage of the game, Vipers and Mbarara eventually settled for a point.

Vipers, who have moved third with seven points in three games, will host SC Villa in their next match at the St Mary's Stadium Kitende on October 20.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, Mbarara City, who are now 12th with two points from three matches, will visit Busoga United.
