Football UPL: Vipers seek quick response from opening day blues as they host Express

After an uncharacteristic start to the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season, Vipers SC will be keen on making an instant turnaround when they play host to Express FC at the St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende on Thursday.

The Venoms agonizingly lost 3-1 to NEC FC on Sunday at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, but tomorrow presents an opportunity to make amends.

Meanwhile, their opponents Express made a decent and respectable beginning to the campaign, as they beat newbies Mbale Heroes on Monday at the Ham Nakivubo Stadium.

The St. Mary's Stadium bout will be a repeat of last season's encounter where Vipers edged the Red Eagles 1-0, courtesy of skipper Milton Karisa's lone strike. Express had won the first round tie 2-0 at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Vipers hold the lion’s share of victories in this fixture, with 11 wins since the 2012/13 season. Express have managed four victories while eight matches have ended in shared spoils.

Vipers and Express will be meeting for the 38th time in Uganda’s league history since 2006 when the Venoms joined the top-flight division. We have won 17, drawn 12 and lost 8 with a return of 46 goals against 27.
