Vipers SC needed a second-half goal to salvage a one-all stalemate with record holders SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League on Friday at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende.

As Garvin Kizito Mugweri netted for Villa, Patrick Mbowa grabbed the equaliser for the Venoms on an eventful evening under the floodlights.

Kizito, who only returned to Villa at the start of the season, scored through a seven-minute strike off an excellent freekick from Umar Lutalo.

The Venoms nearly found a leveller through a Bright Anukani freekick, but goalkeeper Norman Angufidru made a decent save to leave it levelled.

Vipers yet again pressed and should have scored at the stroke of half-time, but Angufidru superbly saved Yunus Sentamu's effort.

Into the second half, with Vipers pressing hard, the latter should have grabbed the equaliser, but substitute and new signing Erick Kambale missed from close range with the goal at his mercy.

Eight minutes later, Mbowa headed past Angufidru to level matters for Vipers after a spell of sheer dominance.

Despite more dominion from the hosts, the game stayed locked at 1-1 as they saw out the entire 90 minutes.

Vipers are now fourth with eight points on the 16-team log, while Villa have ascended to seventh.

While Vipers will visit Soltilo Bright Stars FC on October 27 in the next match, three days before, Villa will host leaders BUL FC.
