Valencia set to miss Cavani for up to a month due to injury.
Valencia are facing a crisis on and off the field, and their problems have now been further aggravated by an injury to the club's top scorer, Edinson Cavani.
Injury to Cavani
The 35-year-old striker was substituted in the 20th minute of Valencia's 2-1 loss to Athletic Club after he picked up an injury and was replaced by Hugo Duro.
Upon further tests today, it was discovered that the Uruguayan has suffered a muscle injury and would be ruled out of action for about a month according to Relevo.
Cavani is Valencia's top scorer this season with seven goals. His absence could worsen what is already a lousy situation for Valencia, who have lost each of their last five games and find themselves languishing in the relegation places.
Valencia in crisis
Only recently did Valencia manager Gennaro Gattuso resign due to a breakdown in trust between himself and the club's Singaporean majority shareholder Peter Lim.
Valencia were already suffering a poor spell under Gattuso, and now they have had to navigate the past week with their interim 'Voro' as the club have yet to name a replacement.
Cavani's injury complicates matters further, as they will also be without the team's second-leading scorer, Sami Castillejo, for their next game, a relegation six-pointer against Getafe, due to card accumulation.
The overarching problem at Valencia has long been the leadership of the club, and the fans of Valencia have, as they have done many times previously in different ways, protested against Peter Lim's leadership. They refused to come into the stadium during the home defeat to Athletic Club until the 19th minute of the game, a significant number as Valencia were founded in 1919.
