The Red Devils may have to look elsewhere after a recent report about the Nigerian striker emerged.
Manchester United have reportedly suffered a blow in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface.
The Red Devils are keen to bolster their attacking options, but Leverkusen are determined to keep hold of their star forward.
Man Utd’s Boniface interest
Boniface has impressed with his performances this season, scoring six goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances before a hamstring injury sidelined him.
His commendable goalscoring record has attracted interest from several clubs, including the Red Devils United.
However, the defending German top-flight champions are eager to fend off potential suitors and have reportedly opened negotiations with Boniface over a contract extension.
The Bundesliga champions are rumoured to be prepared to make him one of their highest earners to secure his long-term future at the club.
Man Utd’s potential Boniface alternatives
Despite the rumoured setback, Manchester United continue to monitor Boniface's situation.
However, they are also exploring alternative targets, with Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres reportedly a more concrete option.
Gyokeres has been in sensational form since joining Sporting, scoring 68 goals in 72 appearances, and a reunion with his former manager Ruben Amorim could be a tempting prospect.
Other potential targets for the Red Devils include Eintracht Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush, Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen, and Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani.
What next for Manchester United?
Amorim’s side return to Premier League action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, keen to respond after losing 2-0 at Arsenal on Wednesday.
