Super Eagles celebrate Osimhen
The 25-year-old became the first Nigerian in 24 years to be crowned as Africa’s best player of the year.
Super Eagles legend, Kanu Nwankwo, was the last Nigerian to win the award in 1999 before Osimhen’s rise to the top of the game in the continent.
Ahead of the 2023 AFCON slated for Cote d’Ivoire, Osimhen’s national teammates led by skipper Ahmed Musa, and coach Jose Peseiro, have congratulated and celebrated the SSC Napoli for his historic award.
The celebration occurred in the Super Eagles camp in Abu Dhabi, with Musa and Peseiro saying some kind words to the Nigerian Super Eagles star forward.
“On behalf of all the team, I say congratulations again,” skipper Ahmed Musa stated in the video.
“If you remember I told you in Egypt (AFCON 2019), I always told you that patience is the perfect time and now you can see. When you are patient, you achieve a lot,” Musa added.
In his remark, coach Peseiro also congratulated the Napoli man, adding that he hopes he can fire Nigeria to the AFCON 2023 title with his goals.
Osimhen is expected to lead the Super Eagles when they kick off their journey to a fourth AFCON title on January 14th against Equatorial Guinea.
Peseiro and his Eagles are looking to end Nigeria’s 10-year wait for the AFCON after the win in South Africa in 2013.
