Victor Wanyama’s new club has made a decision over possibly appealing his controversial red card ahead of a crucial league game on Wednesday.
Victor Wanyama’s hopes of seeing his red card overturned have been dashed after his Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic made a decision against appealing it.
Wanyama is suspended for one match after his debut for the Scottish second tier club turned into a nightmare as he was sent off 20 minutes after coming on as a second half substitute.
The 33-year made a shock switch to Dunfermline Athletic last week after being lured by his former Celtic coach Neil Lennon but he had the worst possible start when he received his marching orders in last Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Ayr United.

Benni McCarthy’s CHAN 2024 options thin after Harambee Stars defender’s transfer to Europe
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy will have to find another reliable local-based player in a key defensive position after the country’s first-choice secured a dream move abroad.
Wanyama was beaten for pace by Ayr forward Mark McKenzie and he stumbled and got his hand on the ball, forcing the referee to flash out a red card, as he was deemed to have denied the opponent a goalscoring opportunity.

That soured the midfielder’s first game although the punishment was deemed to be harsh by his coach and other observers.
“He slipped and his initial reaction is to reach out for it,” Lennon told the club website about what he thought of Wanyama’s red card.

'Come meet Benni McCarthy' – Taiwo Atieno urges Tottenham star to ditch England for Kenya
Taiwo Atieno has urged Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence to visit Kenya and meet Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy before deciding on his international future.
“But I thought we had a Jeremiah there, I didn’t think the guy would have been clean through. Listen, I’m not happy with the referee.”
With the feeling that the Kenyan star was wrongly sent off, it was expected that Dunfermline Athletic would appeal the red card to allow him be available for Wednesday’s match against Livingston but as per The Courier, the club will not appeal the red card.
That means Wanyama will sit out Wednesday’s match but will be available on Saturday when Lennon’s side Hamilton Accies.
