Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama will watch the MLS playoffs from home for the second straight year after CF Montreal crashed out in heartbreaking fashion.
Victor Wanyama’s season will end early for the second straight year after CF Montreal suffered playoff heartbreak following a shootout loss to Atlanta United on Wednesday.
Montreal had dug themselves out of a hole in their wild card game at home to Atlanta after clawing back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in regulation time before the match was decided on post-match penalties, which the visitors won 5-4.
It means Montreal will miss out of the playoffs for the second season running after suffering the same heartbreak in 2023, which contributed to the sacking of coach Hernan Losada.

Bench warmer at CF Montreal & contract running out, which way Victor Wanyama?
Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama is at crossroads as his contract at MLS club CF Montreal enters into its final months at a time when he has turned into a bench warmer.
The latest setback has left a number of personnel facing uncertain futures at the club with Wanyama key among them.
Wanyama has rarely played this season, making just 15 appearances across all competitions, with his last league match coming on July 18.
With his contract running out, it appears that his time at the club is coming to an end given he is the club’s highest earner but appears surplus to requirements under coach Laurent Courtois.
Another man facing an uncertain future is striker Josef Martinez whose one-year deal is also expiring and despite bagging 14 goals, he looks ready to challenge himself elsewhere after Montreal failed to match his ambitions.
Martinez arrived to much fanfare from Atlanta with hopes high that he would be the catalyst of a major revival under Courtois but it has been another season of struggle for the club and it has been reported that he is looking to quit.
Meanwhile, Courtois will also be left wondering if he is also living on borrowed time, having missed out on the playoffs and not delivered a trophy, the two reasons that led to the sacking of his predecessor Losada.
