They open their second round at home to KCCA on Thursday, February 9th, before travelling to the St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende on Tuesday 21st to take on third placed Vipers.
Wakiso Giants' 3-1 win over Kitara Regional League side Fort Portal Boda Boda in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64 is a big motivation ahead of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League that resumes next week, their head coach John Luyinda believes.
In a week that has seen topflight sides struggle and others bow out to regional league sides, the Purple Sharks did not take any chances and were quick to dispatch their opponents.
Norman Ojik unlocked the game just after seven minutes, and Moses Aliro doubled the lead after another seven to put John Luyinda’s side in a comfortable first half lead.
Boda Boda pulled one back but Frank Ssebuufu restored the goal margin with three minutes of regulation time left.
Luyinda was impressed with the victory and believes this was a starter for the year ahead of the league resumption.
“The performance was good, especially in the first half and thank God we progressed because that is what is most important in the knockout games,” he said after the game.
“The game also helped us in terms of preparation for league resumption," he added.
The Giants were among the surprise performers from the first round of the league that ended with them swimming in the top four with 25 points, four below leaders KCCA.
