Investigation and Aftermath

Following the incident, the Gambia Football Federation issued a statement acknowledging the emergency and assuring the public that the team was safe and healthy.

Preliminary investigations pointed to a loss of cabin pressure and oxygen, with further assessments being carried out by Air Cote d'Ivoire's technical team.

Meanwhile, the team awaited further instructions at the Ocean Bay Hotel, with their participation in the tournament hanging in the balance.

This incident occurred against tension between the players and the Gambia Football Federation regarding bonus payments.

The players had earlier boycotted a training session, demanding bonuses for qualifying for the Nations Cup. Amid these challenges, the team's readiness and morale for the upcoming matches against formidable opponents like Senegal, Guinea, and Cameroon remain uncertain.

The incident underscores the importance of stringent safety measures in sports logistics and the need for governing bodies to ensure the well-being of athletes during international travel.
