Bruno Fernandes has now earned more Goal of the Month awards than Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah after adding September's award to his catalog.

Portuguese icon Bruno Fernandes has equalled a Premier League record held by former Tottenham and Everton midfielder Andros Townsend after winning the September Goal of the Month title.

Prior to Fernandes’ September award, no player had won as many as Townsend’s three Goal of the Month accolades, but the Portuguese now moves alongside the English midfielder atop the list of players with the most titles.

Bruno Fernandes’ third Goal of the Month award came as a result of the Manchester United captain’s sublime strike against Burnley, which won the Red Devils all three points in a tricky encounter at Turf Moor.

The Portuguese maestro met a brilliantly lobbed pass from centre-back Jonny Evans to volley home first-time with a powerful strike from the edge of the area to secure the victory for Manchester United and the Goal of the Month award for himself.

Fernandes moves past Salah and de Bruyne

Fernandes’ first Goal of the Month award came in his first season at Manchester United, thanks to a strike in June 2020 against Brighton, while his second award was for his goal against Everton in February 2021.

The Portugal international’s goal wrestles the award from August winner Kaoru Mitoma, whose goal against Wolves was judged as the best from the opening month of the season.

Manchester United’s talisman has now received more Goal of the Month awards than the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah, who both have two awards to their names.
