Senegal defeated the two-time winners in their final match played at the 19 May 1956 Stadium in Annaba to secure their place in the knock-out stage of the ongoing tournament in Algeria.

Osmane Diouf's first-half strike had the Lions on their way to victory before two more goals in the second half from 18-year-old Pape Diallo and an own goal by Siadi Baggio ensured the West Africans finished at the top.

Senegal finhsed as group winners.

For the Elephants

It was a thrilling game at the new Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers as a Karamoko Sankara-inspired Ivory Coast sent home a stubborn Ugandan side.

Two quick goals from Sankara, who also assisted the winner, and Patrick Ouotro gave the Ivorians a 2-0 lead in the opening 27 minutes.

Moses Waiswa pulled one back for the Cranes heading into the break but Ivory Coast sealed the win when Aubin Kramo made it 3-1 with 12 minutes left to play.

The last time Côte d’Ivoire made it to the TotalEnergiesCHAN knockout stages, they won the bronze medal.
