For Uganda's most successful club SC Villa, new head coach Dusan Stojanovic has hit the ground running, even after losing top players in Gift Fred and Charles Bbaale as free agents.

Uganda Premier League clubs are well into their preseason training schedules ahead of the new season.

Goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige is one of the players from last season is back training with the Joogos.

"We love the steps the club is taking towards player development with the new coaches," Kibirige said.

"It's been a fortnight of hard work and the new drills so far. The boys are giving everything. We hope for the best of the preseason ahead," he added.

Kibirige missed most of the first round due to injury and a suspension but bounced back in the final half, managing 16 games.

Former captain Gift Fred joining Young Africans on a three-year deal, and Bbaale, the club's league top scorer last season with 12 goals, joining Rayon Sports in Rwanda, has depleted the record 16-time league champions. However, they are expected to beef up the squad in the coming weeks.

SC Villa under Jackson Magera last season came within minutes of lifting their first league title in 19 years when they pushed for the league until the last day only to lose 1-0 to URA FC at Wankulukuku.

First on Villa's schedule, this season is the FUFA Super Eight tournament, which will be from August 4th to 10th. The StarTimes Uganda Premier League will get underway on September 15th 2023.
