Vinicius outshines Rodri after Ballon d’Or disappointment

Despite his stellar performances last season, Vinicius controversially missed out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or to Manchester City’s Rodri, leading Real Madrid to boycott the ceremony.

However, his contributions to Real Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League double could not be ignored this time.

Scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists, Vinicius was instrumental in his side’s success and was widely regarded as one of the most consistent performers in world football.

The FIFA Best award, recognising performances between August 2023 and August 2024, was determined by a combination of fan votes, media input, and selections from national team captains and managers, and saw Vinicius overcome strong competition, including Rodri, to secure his first FIFA Best title.

A Landmark Night for Vinicius and Real Madrid

Vinicius’ triumph marks a significant moment not only for the player but also for Real Madrid. In addition to claiming the FIFA Best Men’s Player award, the Brazilian was named in the FIFPro Men’s World X.

Real Madrid were already in Qatar for their FIFA Intercontinental Cup final against Pachuca, and will be hoping to end the yeat on a high with victory in Doha.
