The hosts were leading when Ingwe fans stormed the pitch.

A Football Kenya Federation Premier League match pitting Kakamega Homeboyz and AFC Leopards at Bukhungu stadium has been abandoned after violence broke out.

The game was in the 34th minute when fans streamed into the field pelting projectiles at rivals causing a near stampede in the packed amphitheater.

Kakamega Homeboyz were leading courtesy of H. Otieno's sublime goal in the 24th minute and seemed to be well in control of proceedings when the ugly head of violence reared its head.

Both sets of players and match officials scampered for safety of the dressing rooms as throngs of fans escaping from the stadium nearly caused a stampede.

With the violence taking too long to die down the game was officially abandoned and FKF judicial body will now peruse match officials' reports before issuing a verdict.

Violent entry by ticketless fans had set the preamble of a fixture usually marked by inexplicable hostility and the home fans jeered their visitors all through the game. The taunts heightened when Homeboyz took the lead. Jibes between the two set of fans degenerated into ugly scenes with several people injured from projectiles thrown into the crowds.
