Karisa says that the team resorted to protecting their result at one point rather than showing their might as the Soldier Boys overwhelmed them.

Vipers SC captain Milton Karisa has admitted that the team did not perform to the expectations despite beating Gaddafi 2-1 to win their opening match in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Sunday in Jinja.

Karisa scored one Mohammed Salem the other as the champions struggled to keep off Gaddafi’s marauding strikers Amos Kirya and Rashid Mpaata.

The Venoms double-winning captain says that the team resorted to protecting their result at one point rather than showing their might as the Soldier Boys overwhelmed them.

“I think there was a point in the game when we all kind of realised that this was a game that we don’t want to lose rather than we want to control and win,” Karisa noted.

Karisa rates their performance as “decent level” but, just like his head coach Leo Neiva, feels the team must pull up their socks.

“There’s always things to work on and keep getting better at. We performed at a decent level, it was a decent result, a lot of things to work on,” the captain added.

Vipers return to action on Thursday night with their opening home game against Arua Hill under the floodlights.
