FOOTBALL Vipers miss second chance to play CECAFA Cup

Vipers would have represented Uganda as the winners of the 2022/23 league title, but won't get the chance.

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC will for a second year running miss out on the opportunity to play the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

This was after the regional tournament was for a second successive year cancelled by the organizers.

"It is unfortunate that once again we shall not have this tournament this year," CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo confirmed in a statement.

"We had hope to stage the tournament to also help our teams in the region use to prepare agreed if the CAF competitions which start next month."

Vipers would have represented Uganda as the winners of the 2022/23 league title, but won't get the chance.

The Venoms would have been the representatives last year as well following their league triumph in the 2021/22 season, but the competition wasn't held.

This year's edition was slated for Sudan but the country has been enduring a period of insecurity due to a civil war.

CECAFA Kagame Cup was last held in 2021 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and was clinched by Uganda's Express FC.
