Vipers SC forward Abubakar Lawal tragically passed away in a motor crash, leaving the football community mourning his untimely loss.
Nigerian striker Abubakar Lawal, who played as a centre-forward for Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC, has tragically passed away following a motor crash on Entebbe Road on Monday morning. He was 29 years old.
Lawal, who joined the Kitende-based club in July 2022, had been an instrumental figure in Vipers SC's triumph in the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League season.
Born on September 3, 1995, in Nigeria, Lawal’s football journey saw him rise through the ranks of Nigerian football before moving abroad.

Before joining Vipers SC, he spent nearly two years playing for AS Kigali in Rwanda, where he made a significant impact. In the 2021/22 season, he scored eight goals and provided ten assists in all competitions, guiding AS Kigali to the Kigali Peace Cup in June 2022, his final appearance for the team.
His career also included stints in the Nigerian Premier League, where he played for Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC, and FC Nasarawa.
His performances in the domestic league earned him recognition and ultimately a move to Vipers SC in Uganda.
He became Vipers’ seventh signing of the transfer window, joining a roster that included Alfred Macumu Mudekereza, Olivier Omadjondo Osomba, Isa Mubiru, Marvin Joseph Youngman, Ashraf Mandela, and Abdu Lumala.
During his time with Vipers SC, Lawal played an essential role in the squad, featuring in eight league matches this season before his untimely death.
His energetic playstyle, technical abilities, and goal-scoring instincts made him a valuable asset to the club. He was known for his commitment to the game, passion for football, and professionalism on and off the pitch.
