Vipers SC recovered from Wednesday's one-all stalemate with Maroons FC to comfortably beat Blacks Power FC 2-0 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Saturday at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende.

Karim Ndugwa and Martin Kizza opened their accounts with the Venoms as they ascended to third on the table with 32 points.

Vipers now trail leaders SC Villa by eleven points, but the latter have played four games more.

In the evening, under the floodlights, the hosts made a bright start and should have been ahead in the third minute, but Abubakar Lawal was unlucky as his effort hit the post.

Seven minutes later , Ndugwa capitalized on a defensive mishap to loop a brilliant header into the left corner to put the Venoms in an early lead.

It should have been 2-0 at the 27th-minute mark, but Yunus Sentamu had his stinging shot parried away by goalkeeper Tonny Kyamera.

At the stroke of halftime, Kizza got his first for the club, as his low drive outside the box found the bottom left corner to double Vipers' lead.

The second stanza was short of goalscoring opportunities from either team, save for a strong Lawal shot that missed the target by inches in the 58th minute.

A head injury to Vipers' Denis Kiggundu was the biggest highlight of the half, with the goalkeeper landing awkwardly as he leapt for the ball.

The Kitende side will return to league action on April 19th against UPDF FC at the Bombo Military Grounds.

Meanwhile, Blacks Power, who lie second from bottom with 16 points, will a day earlier play host to Maroons FC at the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium.
