CAF CL Vipers showed too much respect to Casablanca - Mutebi

Former KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi has featured in the CAF Champions League group stages before, and despite not making it out with the former, he gave powerhouses Al Ahly and others a run for their money in 2018.

The self-styled gaffer believes Vipers SC should have expressed themselves better, and a 5-0 thrashing against Raja Casablanca on Friday would not have happened.

"They were timid and showed the opposition a lot of respect," noted Mutebi in an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports on Thursday.

"The coach (Beto Bianchi) had a plan, but that identity was not seen. I don't know if it was there. The most significant point is they gave them too much respect.

"The opposition outplayed them, but we also have to know they are a powerful country (Morocco) far beyond us."

Mutebi's KCCA beat Al Ahly 2-0 in Uganda and lost 4-3 in Egypt, a show commended by the entire football faithful. Like his former side, the tactician believes Vipers must have an identity and stick to it.

"You have to play your way; we did that, of course, we lost some matches, but we went toe to toe with them, even though they were better than us."

The Venoms will look to make amends when they take on Guinea side Horoya FC on Saturday at the St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende, in what will be their second group stage match.
