The 31-year-old turned out for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur during his time in England.

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has bemoaned the marathon fixture list of CF Montreal revealing that he has "never experienced anything like that".

CF Montreal are fighting on two fronts early in the season as they are juggling between the Major Soccer League (MLS) and the Canadian Championship where they booked their place in the final.

The busy fixture list has seen the Canadian outfit play 11 games in 36 days but their schedule is set to ease after playing the Championship final against Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday 8 June.

Despite English sides having four competitions for teams that qualify for European football, Wanyama noted that the lengthy back-to-back fixtures are a new experience for him.

“I’ve never experienced anything like that,” said midfielder Victor Wanyama. When I was playing in England, streaks like this only lasted two weeks. It is difficult, but the most important thing is to rest.

“Mentally, I just want to think about what I can do to recover. Despite everything, we will continue to fight for every victory and every point,” Wanyama told Wire News.

Montreal have however coped well with the compressed matches, losing only twice in the MLS following a torrid start to the season that saw them win one game in the opening seven matches.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has played all 15 MLS games this season and failed to complete the full 90 minutes only on two occasions and also featured in their Canadian Championship semi-final against Forge.
